Winter GabFest 2006

The January 2006 WNC EastEnders Gabfest occurred this year with no weather issues!  It was a beautiful, if not seasonally warm, day in Black Mountain.  We had 17 folks in attendance - a good crowd for January!  It was great to see long time member, Glennie, back from his travels and able to join us with his friend Will.

After a brief update about the plans for our meeting, we shared several magazines that Kim brought us from "over the pond."  We can never have too much EE information!

We ordered and waited for the wonderful meal that Madison Inn always delivers!  One of our couples visiting spent the weekend at the Inn and shared how much they enjoyed their specialty room and complimentary breakfast.  After our meals arrived, we watched the "EastEnders 15th Birthday" black-tie special hosted by Jonathan Ross.  If you don't already know, Jonathan Ross is a famous talk show host in Britain.  I heard a rumour that is mother is a big fan of the show!  And despite the sound issues in part of the tape, it was fun to see the gang decked out in their best duds, talking about themselves and their fellow cast members.  The special included many scenes from the best of the program and just a few small spoilers.  Many thanks to Melissa for sharing this tape with us!

After our meal and program, we gathered for our group photos.

Our quarterly Pub Quiz was then presented with our First Place Winner being Dee!  The prize was the book British English A to Zed.  Second Place Winners were Ralph and Jennifer, winning a Blackpool tea towel (also courtesy of Melissa).

Dave and Linda were not able to join us from the NC EastEnders Fan club, but we shared their plans for Festival this year:

UNC-TV plans to devote the second night of Festival, Feb. 26, to an EE
marathon, starting at 8:00.  Yes, that's right--we'd have all of primetime
just for EE!  Last year we raised $40,000, so they're challenging us to
raise $50,000 this year in honor of UNC-TV's 50th anniversary, which
        occurred in 2005.

And, as always, we ended our time together sharing another wonderful piece of our traditional Gabfest cake.

We hope you will consider a trip to beautiful Black Mountain and joining us for our next meeting!
