Spring GabFest '99, the fifth meeting of the Western North Carolina EastEnders Fans, was held on April 17, 1999 at 1 p.m. Once again, we met at Damon's in East Asheville. And this time, we had a very special guest join us all the way from Raleigh: Dave Horne, President of the North Carolina EastEnders Fan Club. Others present included Jennifer Allen, Bill Ammons, Ray and Donna Bodie, Dee Brennan, Jane Hewitt, Anne Jones, Judy Purdee, Vikki Whiston, and Talus Young. This meeting marked the first time we were into "double digit" attendance!

As before, we discussed EastEnders and dined. We watched the famous "Dot and Ethel" two-hander episode, as well as an "Early Years" episode, courtesy of BBC America. And we added a new element to our seasonal GabFests: The EastEnders Trivia Quiz! Judy Purdee was our winner, with eighteen correct answers. (The complete quiz appears on the WNC EastEnders Fan Page.) She was awarded an assortment of English teas, as well as an EastEnders mug, provided by Denny of Design House.

Also, Dave Horne brought along a very special door prize. The book "Kathy & Me" was presented to Dee Brennan.

Dessert consisted of a bakery cake, featuring the river Thames and EastEnders logo, and a delicious chocolate cake, provided by Jane Hewitt.
